Sardine
in the cans
Surprisingly
that no federal regulation to impose “product dating.” However,
foods for infant are required to include “expire
dating.”
The
institution called as “Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)”
requests voluntarily to label of dating some products, including:
-
meat
-
poultry
-
eggs
We
may find the following phrases in the market:
-
use by
-
sell by
-
best if used before
Food
preserved in the bottle
“Use
by” phrase means “the
last date recommended for the use of the product.” Thus, not a
safety date.
Phrase
of “sell by” is used by a store management to display the
products for sale to consumers. It is not relate to quality or safety
of products.
Traditional
preserved tempeh
“Best
if use before,” this is not indicating to safety date. It is just
the date of the best flavor.
So,
if the “phrases” not refer to food safety, then,
we may have a question: Is It Safe to Consume
Foods
after
Expiration
Date?
The
answer is depend on several factors, generally:
-
If
flavor, odor and color changed, then, we should throw away the foods.
-
if foods are preserved in bottles and cans, we may eat after six
months of expired date.
We
may consume little bit longer than expired date, if we keep our
purchased foods (eggs, meat, chicken, milk, apple, strawberry and
other fresh or preserved products) in the refrigerator and or
freezer.
Did
you ever consume expired date foods?

I think it depends on the type of food. If it's pasta or rice then for me is fine but any liquid things probably better not :( :**Regards
ReplyDeleteI agree. I eat pasta, rice, sugar etc. after expiration date :)

ReplyDeleteI have eaten some products after the expiration date, because as you explain some products just recomend a date because have a better flavour. I always see that is in a good conditions, smell and taste good. Thanks for the post

Very good post dear!!!
I eat little meat. I love vegetables and they grow delicious and organic in my garden.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post.
Hugs and greetings, Evi:)
I never consumed expired food, Evi. I think. Except that they were defeated and sold them the same with some change in the alert tag.
ReplyDeleteImportant your entry, friend. Be very careful you have to be. I value your information and warning a lot. They are things to always keep in mind.
Hugs, Evi, one more time.

Good post. I never consume anything that's near its 'best by' or 'sell by' dates.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting topic! I'm glad I stopped by your blog and found out about it

I try to not buy too much
ReplyDeleteI've often wondered. However well you plan, that is always something that is over the date.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
I never do that☺
ReplyDeleteThere are some food that I will consume even after expiry date but it all depends on the type of food. If it is dried foodstuff or frozen ones, then I think its okay. Before buying I will check the expiry date and nowadays I try not to stock up too much.
ReplyDeleteI don't like a fish :(
ReplyDeleteBut... intresting post!

Yeah I guess sometime I ate something beyond the expiration date
ReplyDeleteIt is a very serious issue from the sanitary point of view. Years ago there was no such lack of control today, food used to be well labeled with expiration dates.
ReplyDeleteAs a consumer I never buy products that do not come with the expiration label, the preferred consumption labels are not useful.
A hug and happy week!
Another interesting post.
ReplyDeleteI try to consume everything until the validity.
i sometimes eat food after this date;p
ReplyDeleteI try not to eat any expired date food, but i don't know in the past if i ever did it
ReplyDeleteInteresting post my dear, thank you for sharing :-)
ReplyDeleteI think most of the dates are suggestions but it's always best to use common sense and err on the side of safety when it comes to food.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post.

The only thing I eate after the "best before" date is salad. The leaves that are no longer good to eat are reasy to see and throw away, the other ones may still be good for consuming when kept in a fridge. I was aware that the best before date expressed the fact that there were no alterations in taste or smell but it happened to me that I had and kept in fridge some dairy products and when I opened them while still in best before time when were gone bad and impossible to eat.
ReplyDeletethis is very interestanding :)
ReplyDeleteAll very good info to know! Thanks! I hope you're having a nice Monday!

ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeletesuch a great article. I have no idea about some of the things that you are writing about :-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting post! I always check the date on products !
ReplyDeleteGreetings
have a good day:)
ReplyDeleteI have never eaten expired food ;D
ReplyDeletebest regards
Beijinhos! Até breve!

I always pay attention to the sell-by date in the store or the packed on... date. At home I don't worry a bit beyond the expiration for most things. But you can usually tell.
ReplyDeleteSo great post

I typically try not to eat food after the expired date. There used to be a store that I noticed was selling a lot of expired food. Noticed I said used to be...safe to say that grocery store is no longer in business.
ReplyDeleteI actually never tried it before but I surely would never ever try. Monmaap, sekarang biaya doter mehong. Pake BPJS kadang lama ngantrinya trus kadang dokternya suka jutek gtu haha. Aku sih gak berani. hehe.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog. See you soon and have a great summer!

ReplyDeleteI've never tried food that is past its expiration date. I always check (expiration date) because if I eat it, i'll get stomachache easily
ReplyDeleteEstupendo post! Gracias por la información! Me encantaría verte pronto por mi blog! Feliz día! ♡♡♡
ReplyDeleteI eat a lot of chocolate & cookies after expiry date and that's totally ok for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info! I just use common sense with these things, if the food still looks/smells good and it's been well preserved in a cool place, I can eat it ^^

Important post.
ReplyDelete¡Hola!
ReplyDeleteLa fecha de caducidad es algo orientativa. Gracias por la información.
Un beso ;)
I do pay attention to the expiration date of food.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I have a calendula lotion which is well past its expirartion date, and I still use it for minor skin erruption as it helps. I've ordered some new calendula tube as this is almost finished, so hope I won't need it anymore.

Banyakan ibu-ibu hamil pula
