Why Persian Cats Have Long Silky Fur?

The Persian cat

Persian cat is popular and even most popular cat in the America in recent years. It got attention by households as a pet in America since 1970’s.

People have many reasons to love this breed, they are including:
- friendly to owners and even to everybody
- beautiful looking breed
- kitten like activity in some conditions
- attract attention by rolling and running around inside a room.
- like to play with and chase something.
- very responsive

We might curious to have a question: Why Persian Cats Have Long (Silky) Fur compared to other breeds?

The simple answer that It is because through evolution process that cats have thick and long fur to cover its body from freezing temperature in the areas of its origin habitats.

Historically, Persian cats lived in the Iranian mountains or high plateau where temperature is at freezing points.

As you might know that Persia is ancient name for Iran. Cats were brought to Europe by Italian around 17th century.

Persian cats to be status symbol for owners in Italy hundred years ago. Queen Victoria heeded the cats, made the breeds more popular both in England and in Europe.

Cats was shipped into USA around 19th century, then spread all over the world as one of most popular cats.

  3. Hi Evi my sister has 3 cats ,they are her children,i am not sure what breeds they are as she gets rescue cats.

    Even if I can't even imagine how to deal with all that fur: I've got an European kitty (so with normal fur) and her fur go literally everywhere!^^

  37. Persian cats are a pretty breed, but I probably wouldn't pick one for my pet because taking care of their fur is a lot of work. My childhood friend had a long haired Persian cat called Snowfake, she had to be brushed regularly (every day) or her fur would tangle. If I got a Persian, I'd like to get a mixed breed, I like the combination of a Persian and an ordinary domestic cat, it's a great combo. We had one such cat when I was little, she was adorable.

  38. Desde niña no tengo gatos y hecho menos ese tiempo en el que había un gato en casa y algunas veces más de uno. Generalmente los que teníamos eran gatos comunes. Tan sólo un vez tuve uno persa de color gris, que fue motivo de un regalo.

    Aunque se me van los ojos cada vez que veo un gato, no llevo ninguno a mi hogar. Cuando era pequeña viviamos en una casa y había más espacio, ahora vivo en un pequeño piso y no hay espacio para un animal.
