Can High Blood Pressure Affect on Alzheimer's Disease? - Alzheimer's 24

Independent Park, Baton Rouge

Even we prepared for corona virus, the daily activities are no changes in Baton Rouge.
Last Sunday morning, the sky was clear and the weather a quite warm.

I walked around Independent Park, Baton Rouge. It was still quiet in the park. The kids were not show up in the park play ground yet.

A middle age woman passed me. She looked chick in trail with her mini umbrella skirt. Indeed, it was a quite warm that morning.

She reminded me to my coworker, Ms J., who take a walk around the the parking lot and buildings before she punch in every morning.

We are in the same program, reducing the risk of hypertension by taking a walk. We also concern about the healthy brain, preventing from Alzheimer's disease and any dementia.

I had an interesting conversation with Ms J, she said that she is in Blood Pressure Regimen.

A pink rose in the park garden

She said it is good for her because this medical regimen will save her life from any risk of her high blood pressure, such as heart attack and the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.

It is a new info for me that high blood pressure may effect the risk of cognitive impairment. Both elevated systolic and diastolic blood pressure lead to rapid cognitive decline and a greater chance to develop Alzheimer's disease.

Reading from some sources, I deduce that ischemic damage and oxidative stress caused by high blood pressure can increase the amount of deposit beta amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain, which are the marks of Alzheimer's disease.

Other sources said there is an enzyme play role in here. The angiotension converting enzyme from kidney.

This enzyme function is both regulating our blood pressure and metabolizing amyloid. So, when this enzyme is mutated, it will promote to heart disease and Alzheimer's disease as well.

So both of us are working hard to prevent the elevated blood pressure. Trying to back the normal blood pressure which is 90 to 120 mmHg systolic and 50 to 80 diastolic.
