Have You Ever Visited Weekly Farmer Markets?

Fig 01- Sign of Tuesday farmer market

We have several farmer markets in our neighborhood, the markets schedule (opening hours) varies:

- daily markets, from morning to afternoon, about 8 to 12 hours.

- weekly, from morning to noon, around 4 business hours.

The closest weekly market is in the city main library parking lots, near botanical garden and cafe building.

The distance is very close to our house, no more than 12 minutes by car. If no traffic, just about 7 minutes.

It is called as Tuesday farmer market. Actually, the market could be canceled if weather not permitting (very bad).

The market size is very small and temporary, just by mobile tents. We saw about 4 tents in the last Tuesday.

Another name for this Tuesday market is Red Stick Farmer Market, belong to an organization, the Baton Rouge Economics and Agricultural Development Alliance (BREADA).

Fig 03- Local Agriculture produces

The market offers locally grown produces and selection homemade products such as:

- fruits

- vegetables

- honey

- many local food artisans

Fig 04- Consumers pick the vegetables

Not many vegetables available when we visit the market, we bought egg plants only.

The price is quite reasonable, the big sizes for US$ 1 each. It is said that egg plants contain many nutrients. Good for health. We consume them sometimes.

Have you ever visited weekly Farmer Markets? What items do you like to buy?

  1. Nice to visit, the one near me in summer tends to be expensive. But I will buy the odd pastries and vegetables.

  6. Here in Argentina these markets were booming prior to the pandemic that brought isolation and quarantine that changed and upset everything until some normality was installed again. But of course I look a lot for those markets for organic and homemade products that are essential for good healthy eating.

A great joy to read you again, Evi. Hugs and more huge hugs.

  9. Usually in the summer I visit our farmers market twice a week. I tend to get fresh fruit and veg. This year I went to a different one that was very tiny -- only five vendors instead of 20. It will be awhile before I go again -- because of Covid.

  14. We've got only one farm market in my hometown, and it seems to be concentrating on vegetables mainly. I'm usually looking for fruit - variety and reasonable prices. So, I end up buying them at the supermarket.
