Is Brisk Walking better than Slow Walk?

We walk almost 3 times a week, except rain. Our walking is slow and about 35 minutes in our city garden or neighborhood.

Just reading several papers about brisk walking. What is brisk walking by quantity measures?

- 100 steps per minute
- 4.5 km to 4.75 km (2.8 mile to 2.95 mile) per hour for older persons
- 5.3 km to 5.4 km (3.3 mile to 5.4 mile) per hour for younger persons

As reported by ScienceDaily (March 16, 2021) that brisk walking leads to have good:

- cardiovascular
- heart health

Hence, fast walkers could be related to physical fitness. This measure, together with normal Body Mass Index (BMI) are more able to cope with external stressors, include infection diseases.

ScienceDaily (March 16, 2021) also reported surprising finding from UK scientists that:

- there is connection between fitness level and Covid 19 virus infection.
- walking fast will less likely to get severe case of Covid 19, and less chance to die.
- live longer, up to 20 years

So, how often should we walk fast and how long?

- every day, about 20 minutes

  1. My husband and I love walking too. We usually go 3 times a week and walk for about 1 hour. Speed varies depending on our mood. Walking is such amazing exercise for our physical and mental health!

  2. nita juga suka jalan sehat kak evi, memutari jalan keluar kompleks sampai danau yang ada di belakang rumah kami. Hawanya kalau pagi segar banget, terutama masih ada bau harum tetesan embun....dan terlebih hari ga begitu terik tapi agak sedikit berangin...itu enak banget buat jalan ^^

  4. I walk two times each day with my dog. We walk at a medium to slow speed, the rate he chooses. I usually walk fast in my house for some more exercise.

  5. Your jogging area looks like a lovely place to get in your steps! And it's encouraging to hear that brisk walking can help combat COVID. I used to walk more when I lived at the beach; these days I walk up and down my staircase. :)

  9. I try to walk every day and my typical walk is at least 45 minutes and often longer (but I stop to take photos on some of those walks!) I will not be breaking any speed records, though.

  22. It's good to get out and walk! I walk around my neighborhood from time to time. I don't walk very fast but it is better than sitting on the couch ~ haha!
