Sunshine Vitamin and Indian Blankets in the Baton Rouge Garden – Part 1

Indian Blanket flower.

The weather is getting warmer.

The grass is getting greener and growing faster.

The City Garden is getting more colorful and beautiful.

I take a brief walk around the City Garden routinely. Trying to get benefit of outdoor walks.

Walking under the morning sun to get “sunshine vitamin” or Vitamin D benefits.

We need sunlight which is ultraviolet-B for Vitamin D production in our skin.

Lack of Vitamin D can cause problems in our bones, either fragile bone (osteoporosis) or soft bone (osteomalacia).

Vitamin D also prevents multiple sclerosis.

Even in new studies Vitamin D plays role in our mood which is reducing depression and anxiety, to me, walking outdoor solely can reduce my anxiety.

Their beauty attracts pollinators

Because we need direct sunlight, sunscreen cream or lotion can block the important lights from sun to hit our surface of skin.

I have never applied the sunscreen for walking outdoor in the morning.

Another reward for walking in the outdoor is to enjoy the beauty of the point of view.

In a side of walking track in the city garden, there is a spot of native and imported plants.

# We will discuss one of flowers called as Indian Blanket in part 2

  1. The flower looks so beautiful! My husband gets sunburnt easily and terribly if he didn't apply cream.

  10. Vitamin D allows the body to absorb calcium. Calcium is necessary for strong, healthy bones. Without enough vitamin D and calcium, bones may not form properly during childhood and may lose bone mass, weaken, and break easily in adulthood.
It is recommended at least 10 minutes a day using sunscreen, in hours when the sun is not very strong.
    Greetings Evier

  12. Beautiful flower and yes! We should always take vitamin D, naturally if possible. Here in Upstate NY, with the winters so long and cold, all the doctors prescribe it because many people are indoors during this time. So glad is warming up, I really love summer!

  14. Very good information and analysis, as always. Evi. In these successive quarantines I learned about the importance of Vitamin D. Thank you very much for emphasizing it, in addition to the walks as one of my Thoreau bedside books teaches.

The very very big hugest hug!!
